West Coast rapper Lil B continues his eyes-opening run just months after dropping his I'm Gay (I'm Happy) album with the release of a new song called "I Got AIDS (AIDS Awareness Song)."
Lil B's unrelenting stream of music videos might be slowed down for a bit -- and by "a bit" I mean like two or three days -- because dude's apparently got a new mixtape dropping soon. It's called BasedGod Velli and it depicts the Bay Area rapper looking just like Tupac, who you might recall dropped an album under the name Makaveli. The word is that Lil B's new tape is due out today or tomorrow, but until that time comes you can get a feel for the project right now with "I Got AIDS." It's his very own AIDS awareness song and it mostly focuses on the Based God urging his listeners to get tested for STDs. While we've heard him dwell in this kind of lyrical territory before, it still will be interesting to hear how this track fits into the entirety of BasedGod Velli. (Prefix Mag)
"I got AIDS, God d*mn, I can't believe this sh*t," Lil B raps, "Last time I f*cked this white girl, I can't believe that b*tch/It let me think, God d*mn, it was another girl/I got a lot of things in my life, but now I'm into swirl/No protection, I should have used a condom/Instead of trusting these women/I never got tested, I felt fine, I never got sick/Plus I look good/My mom said, 'Keep your d*ck in your pants and you'll be good.'" ("I Got AIDS")
At the end of the record, Lil B also offered a public service announcement to listeners The music stops with a public service announcement from Lil B that lasts a minute long. Just because people look healthy, he says, doesn't mean there aren't any sexually transmitted diseases lurking inside of their bodies. Looking good and fine, he said, isn't an indication that a person is HIV free. (Huliq)
Despite its controversial title, Lil B's I'm Gay (I'm Happy) albumreceived high praise from Grammy-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco over the summer.
"I won't carry on much longer but I did want to get to the content. Now normally reviewers delve deeply or comparatively lightly when talking about an album. They mention favorite songs or less than favorites for that matter, maybe even breaking them down and bringing finer points of production or lyrical execution to light. Well I'm not going to mess about with any of that. At the end of the day it's all opinion and one man's trash is another man's treasure. If you like it you like it if you don't you don't. The reason I give this album entrance into my "Liberation Rock" library hangs on the power and impact of just one single, solitary line uttered by Lil B in the midst of the entire work that is "I'm Gay."
