Breaking Amish: Rebecca Byler Divorced Rufus Hostetler To Be With Abe Schmucker?
With only first names released during TLC’s Breaking Amish press tour, it was easier to hide Abe Schmucker’s 2008 arrest for public intoxication, Jeremiah Raber’s three children and history of physical abuse against his ex-wife Naomi Stutzman, Sabrina Burkholder’s (née Von High) marriage in 2009, and Kate Stoltzfu getting into modelling as early as 2010.
Rebecca’s full name is allegedly “Rebecca Jane Byler.” As listed in court documents pertaining to her alleged divorce from a man named Rufus Hostetler.
The BreakingAmishTheTruth Facebook page noted, this weekend, “Rebecca: According to public records she was married before meeting Abe.” Rebecca Byler, now 21-years-old, and Rufus Hostetler, now 24-years-old, filed for a marriage license March 22, 2010 after which they married. At the time, in 2010, he was listed as being from Rossiter, Pennsylvania and she from Glen Campbell, Pennsylvania.
Court records, below, show ”Rebecca Jane Byler” currently of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania’s dissolution of marriage from “Rufus L. Hostetler, Jr.” currently of Solen, North Dakota dated July 2012.
Breaking Amish began filming in May 2012, which means Rebecca Byler got married years beforehand, reportedly had a baby with Abe Schmucker between late 2010 and early 2011 as demonstrated by a photo dated June 11, 2010 in which the original poster says Byler’s ”a few weeks pregnant” with her daughter with Schmucker, and the divorce from Hostetler only came through a few weeks ago.
For the moment, Hostetler’s Facebook is public. Born in Ontario, Wisconsin he’s currently the owner of a roofing company. He says in his bio “I’M EX/AMISH.” Photos show he’s since moved on to a relationship with another woman since August 8, 2011. And there are some very telling posts from just after he got married.
Abe from Breaking Amish’s full name has been confirmed as “Abe C. Schmucker” from his 2008 arrest. Which goes to the veracity of this post dated October 31, 2010 from Hostetler’s page saying: “I am tryn 2 figure out why in th world abe schmucker wud want to b a friend on face book afterall he left wht my wife.” Under that is what appears to be a reply to a deleted comment: “haha it wud sound like it he pry got his fill of a very insecure woman lol” (note: time stamps are no longer foolproof since Timeline).
Another post dated April 4, 2011 offering no more specifics, says: “MY EYES WERE OPENED AT CHURCH YESTERDAY. I WONDER WHY DO SO MANY PEPOLE THT LIVE IN SIN WANT 2 BE FORGIVEN BUT THY KEEP LIVING IN SIN.”
So, according to Hostetler, his ex-wife, Byler, left him between the filing of the marriage license in March 2010 and apparently getting pregnant by Schmucker circa June 2010. She left her then-husband to be with Schmucker, and had a baby with Schmucker, and the divorce came through after filming started. Yet Byler and Schmucker are pretending to be dating for the first time on Breaking Amish.
